Teach Spanish at New Trier High School

New Trier Township High School District (Winnetka, IL) has vacancies for Spanish teaching positions for 2001-02. New Trier, serving Chicago's North Shore suburban communities, is a single high school district with a 2000-01 student enrollment of over 3,600 students. To address growing enrollment, in August 2001, the school population will divide between a new freshman campus in Northfield and the existing Winnetka campus for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Lakeside Pride

Lakeside Pride, Chicago's gay and lesbian community band, is growing quickly and is looking for talented conductors, educators, and teachers to join our team. Announcing the following opportunities on Lakeside Pride's conducting staff:

-- MARCHING BAND DIRECTOR, immediate opening. Creative, motivated individual sought to oversee artistic direction and training of the award-winning Lakeside Pride Freedom Band and Color Guard during the 2001 summer season. Band appears in parades and festivals in Chicago and elsewhere in the Midwest. Responsibilities include assigning roles to Drum Major(s), coordinating with Color Guard Captain, and working with a committee of band members to plan logistics for an enjoyable marching season.

-- STRING PROGRAM DIRECTOR. Experienced individual(s) wanted to oversee formation and artistic direction of string ensemble. Possibility to evolve into full orchestra with continued growth.

-- OTHER OPPORTUNITIES: Lakeside Pride is always looking for capable individuals to become involved with the organization to direct chamber ensembles, serve as assistant conductors, or teach in sectionals. If you have the skills, we'll work to find a way to use them!

Please indicate which position(s) you are interested in. Include educational background and teaching/conducting experience. A brief personal statement is encouraged, which could include reasons for wanting to lead the ensemble or artistic visions for the ensemble's growth.

Please note: Lakeside Pride is an all-volunteer organization, and no stipends are provided at this time. Participation is open to ALL who support Lakeside Pride's mission. Women and people of color are particularly encouraged to apply.


Lakeside Pride is a family of musical ensembles which currently include a concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, and various smaller groups. Founded in 1997, the all-volunteer organization has become the largest gay/lesbian band in the nation, currently boasting nearly 80 members, and remains the fastest-growing. The concert band is directed by Thomas Kowalczyk, while the jazz program is led by Mark Thompson. The Lakeside Pride ensembles are sponsored by Playing Out Productions, which recently achieved tax-exempt status.

Upcoming events include a bowling party benefit March 10 at 1pm at Marigold Bowl, 828 W. Grace, a spring concert on April 22 at the Preston Bradley Center, and a jazz show May 6 at Circuit, 3641 N. Halsted.
